G F Handel

Nabal (Part 2)

Part 3 is on the next page,
Part 1 the previous page.

As noted in Wikipedia, "Nabal" (no HWV number) is an oratorio pastiche. It was compiled from the works of Handel in 1764 by John Christopher Smith. It was first performed on 16 March 1764 at Covent Garden, London. The recitatives are presumably the work of Smith, while the arias and choruses are largely borrowed from Handel's operas, oratorios, anthems and cantatas.

There is no published digital score, though a scanned hand-written one exists, from which a modern orchestral score was prepared by Joachim Carlos Martini for a recording by Junge Kantorei and the Frankfurt Baroque Orchestra, conducted by Martini. It was from a copy of this Score that the Midi Files below were made. Unfortunately, many of the sections in the Score, particularly the Recitatives, provided only a Bass Continuo line as the "backing", and I'm not clever enough to "realise" it in standard notation.

If you know of a Website from which can freely and lawfully be downloaded a printable Vocal score for this Work, please let me know the address.

The performance of this Work by Junge Kantorei is on YouTube here. Detailed comments about the Work, and about the Junge Kantorei performance, are provided here.

Here is a "clickable" Table of the available Midi Files for this Work.
